How are you doing on the County Parks Challenge? Here is a list of some organized outings for July if you prefer being part of a group. Remember to take pictures and post them at the Caring for Creation display by Commons I!

Events sponsored by Ottawa County Parks:

  • Beach Zone Friday, August 9, 10:00 AM, Kirk Park. Park staff will have a tent canopy set up on the beach with a variety of activities (adults must supervise their children). There is no program fee, but a parking fee applies. Cancelled if rain or high winds.
  • Macatawa Greenspace Saturday, August 10, 9:30 AM (former Country Club). Learn about the Macatawa River environment and how the restoration project here affects the watershed. This event will be led by Kristen Hintz.
  • Kayak Trip Saturday, August 24, 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM, Hemlock Crossing. See the Ottawa County Summer 2013 Newsletter for more information on registering. Cost is $35 with equipment and basic kayaking lesson provided. Limited space to transport your own kayak ($15). This event will be led by Kristen Hintz.

Caring for Creation scheduled outing:

  • Bicycle Trip Sunday, August 18, 1:00 PM, Musketawa Trail.  Meet at Hope Church to transport your bicycles to the Musketawa Trail, or meet at 2:00 PM at the trail parking lot near Marne with your bikes (see Ottawa County Summer 2013 Newsletter for directions). We will bicycle the section from Marne to Conklin and then transport to Grose County Park on Crockery Lake (#8 in parks brochure) to grill our supper and maybe cool off with a swim. Contact the Boogaarts for more details and to sign up.

You don’t need to wait for us – go on your own anytime! All necessary materials are available at the display next to the Caring for Creation bulletin board. Happy hiking!
