Volunteers of all skills are needed for the 2011 Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity Unity Build. The Unity Build is an annual partnering of area Christian churches to provide affordable homes for local families.

This year’s project is new construction at 24 W. 18th St. It’s a two-story house without a basement. The pad was poured last fall, so construction can begin as soon as the weather moderates. Commencement is set for March 15th. This is a LEED homethe first for Lakeshore Habitatand an honor for the Unity Build.

Unlike last year’s rehabilitation of a foreclosed home, the schedule for new construction is familiar and straightforward, so there should be fewer surprises. The four-hour shifts occur on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, mornings and afternoons; there are also Wednesday evening shifts. The house is to be featured inthe Parade of Homes, so the deadline for completion is early June.

If you’re not able to help with the work on site, there’s also a place to provide hospitality of lunches, snacks, and beverages for the shifts.

The volunteer representative for Hope Church is Chris Wiers. You can reach him to sign up for a shift through the contact form on this website, by e-mail at hedgehogarts (at) centurytel.net, or by phone at (616) 875 7070.
