Several families from Hope Church are members of Eighth Day Farm, a local Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). CSAs are committed to growing vegetables (and other things) and providing them to those folks who purchase shares and making some donations of fresh produce around the community too. As you know, Hope Church has purchased a full share from Eighth Day Farm that gets delivered each week to the Community Action House on 14th Street.

This is the farm’s second season and the farmers are working very hard to make it a ”˜go’. Jeff and Melissa Roessing have Hope College, Western Sem and other community affiliations and are two awesome, hardworking and faithful people! They have visited Hope Church on occasion and are good friends with Jan Smith and her girls. The farm is doing well and flourishing under Jeff and Melissa’s care, but they haven’t been able to draw a salary yet and we hope the upcoming benefit dinner will ensure a good start for the farm’s third year 2011-2012.

So…please prayerfully consider attending the benefit dinner hosted at the urban plot located at the corner of Pine & 30th on the evening of Friday August 26th. It’ll be all local foods and drinks, live music and a silent auction. The evening will begin at 6pm with an hour of food, music and the auction at the urban plot and move to another location for the dinner at 7pm (on Holland’s North side). The tickets are $60 and that $ goes directly to the farm as the chefs, food, drinks, etc are all being donated. For more information, please visit the farm’s website http://www.eighthdayfarm.com. They’d like to know RSVPs by August 19th! You can RSVP to their email on the website. It promises to be a fun evening!
