The Community Ministry is seeking volunteers for several hours mid-day on two days (Sunday, July 29, and Monday, August 6) to help Camp Sunshine move in before and move out after their camp events.
Camp Sunshine provides a camp experience for developmentally disabled adults at Camp Blodgett for eight days, this year from July 29 to August 6. Hope Church has supported the cause with a financial contribution, but also by providing volunteers to move supplies and equipment from their storage facility into camp before camp starts… and then moving back from the camp to the storage facility when the event is concluded. We move tubs and boxes of craft supplies, walkers and wheelchairs, lifts and steps, tents… all the stuff you need to have a camp for people of various abilities.
A box truck carries the bulkiest items, but it’s helpful to have additional vehicles (truck or small trailer especially) with space available to speed the loading process and take care of any overflow.
On Sunday, July 29, we’ll meet at the storage facility north of Holland at 1:30 and transport everything to the lakeshore. On Monday, August 6, we’ll meet at Camp Blodgett at noon, load up, and transport stuff back to the storage facility. Both commitments take a couple of hours, depending on the number of volunteers.
This is truly an instance where many hands make light work! If you’re able to help out on either day or both days, please contact the Community Ministry through Lois Maassen or by using the contact form on this website.
