At 11 a.m. worship on Sunday, May 4, Tom Arendshorst provided inspiration and information for an Offering of Letters to our congresspeople in support of policies and funding that feed people. For anyone who was not able to be present in person in the Gathering Area, here are the information and the letters so that you can participate, too, from wherever you are!

Tom said, “It’s time again today to send letters to our congresspersons urging them to support anti-hunger legislation. This is a kind of faith
issue — having faith that we can be part of God’s long arm of history bending toward justice. We of Hope Church are a Bread for the World Covenant Church.

“Bread for the World is a Christian, non-partisan advocacy organization. Bread studies the dynamics of hunger, develops strategic legislation to prevent hunger, and then works year-round to convince our U.S. Senators and Representatives to support a world without hunger. Our country and the world grow more than enough food; the challenge is delivering nutrition to end hunger in the U.S. and to stop starvation in Sudan, Ukraine, and other regions of crisis.

“We are called to serve justice and to help others in need. Please join us in the Gathering Area after the service to send letters to our senators and representative urging them to strongly support SNAP, WIC, and other food security programs, and to fight hunger abroad.”

To participate, print a copy of the letter to Senator Peters, Senator Slotkin, and Congressman Huizenga. Add your signature and, below that, your printed name and address (so the recipient knows you’re a constituent). Address an envelope as indicated on each letter, add your stamp, and join your voice to the many seeking relief for hunger here and around the world.

Thank you!
