A Letter from the Pastors Re: Change in Plans for Christmas Eve Services due to Blizzard

Dear Hope Church Friends,
It is difficult to be writing this letter to you all on Christmas Eve morning. Our traditions of gathering together for services on Christmas Eve are deeply beloved by all of us. However, the blizzard does not show signs of relenting and public safety and the national weather service as of 11am today has asked that travel be restricted to emergencies only (tinyurl.com/TravelTonight). After consulting with our senior deacon, senior elder, and chair of personnel (our Elder vice president is out of the country at the moment), we have decided to close the building today and not hold any in person or live streamed services. However, we have two ways for us to gather as community for worship from our homes tonight.

  1. 5:30pm — We will release the pre-recorded Christmas Day service. It will remain available from that time forward. You can view the Liturgy (PDF) and watch the service on the Hope Church YouTube Page.  The service will be broadcast through WHTC on Christmas morning as originally planned at 11am and of course people can still access the service for Christmas morning as well.
  2. 11:00pm – Simple Christmas Eve Gathering from our homes over Zoom. The pastors will lead a simple service of reading the Christmas story from Luke’s gospel, singing Silent Night, lighting the Christ Candle, and singing Joy to the World. You can join us from your homes using the link below tonight at 11pm. Perhaps you can have a candle ready to light as we share in this time together. tinyurl.com/ZoomLinkChristmasEve, Meeting ID: 890 0237 7422, Passcode: 1234

These decisions are never easy to make. We both recognized a feeling of deep disappointment in needing to make this decision with our leadership. However, our experiences of the last several years have taught us to be flexible and we know that the Spirit is with us wherever we are drawing us into the love and worship of our God and feeding our spirits in new and evolving ways to be a witness to the light of the world!
