Are you looking for a way to help agencies serving women and children in the Holland/Zeeland community? Would you like to learn more about what the needs in our community are? Would you like to meet like-minded, service-oriented women you might not otherwise have a chance to network with? If you’re a woman 18 or older, you can all of those things at Women’s Service Day, September 30, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Women’s Service Day was founded nine years ago by a group of seven coworkers (including Hope Church member Lois Maassen) who wanted to find ways to serveand to make it easy for others to meet and get involved with the local agencies who do so much in Holland and Zeeland. Since 2002, the group and the 100 or more women who’ve participated each year have painted, landscaped, cooked, cleaned, organized, crafted, read aloud, and much more for agencies like Good Samaritan Ministries, Community Action House, and Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity. About a dozen agencies have been served each year.

The day begins at 8:15 a.m. with breakfast at Hope Church. An optional silent auction and raffle are an opportunity to contribute financially to those in need in the community. A work session follows, which extends from around 9:30 to mid-afternoon.

Capacity is limited, so those who are first-registered are first-served. For more information, e-mail womensserviceday (at) gmail.com, learn more at womensvolunteerday.blogspot.com, or contact Lois. If you’re ready to register, you can do so online at WomensServiceDay.com.

There’s no simpler way to make a contribution to women and children in our communityand explore continuing volunteer opportunities!
