Creation Care
This group explores the intersection of faith and environmental care, with an emphasis on direct experience of nature as an essential component of spiritual growth, and on lifestyle critique as a spiritual discipline. Contact the office for more information or to get involved.
Diners’ Club
An opportunity for adult Hope Church members of all ages to socialize, get to know each other, have fun, be casual, build relationships and eat! Groups meet three times each year in a member’s home. Contact the office for more information or to sign up. This group had to become inactive during COVID. Please let us know if you would be interested in joining this group as they begin to re-emerge.
Gentlemen of a Certain Age
Gentlemen of a Certain Age is one of Hope Church’s many reading groups. Conversations center on, and soon spin away from, assigned chapters of a book that the group has been reading through at a pace of around 50 pages per week. In the past, these books have included: Do I Stay Christian? by Brian McLaren; Being Mortal, by Atul Gawande; Just Mercy, by Bryan Stevenson; and Being Heumann, An Unrepentant Memoir of a Disability Rights Activist by Judy Heumann. It convenes every Thursday morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the Youth room, where members feel so young. “We learn a lot, laugh a lot, and always welcome new friends.” For information, contact Dave Alexander at alexataiwan3@gmail.com
Pub Theology
An offshoot of our young adult programming, Pub Theology is a group that meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:30, usually at Brew Merchant on Washington Avenue. This theologically and generationally diverse group meets over snacks to discuss how the issues of the world connect with our lives, with God and each other. All ages, backgrounds, and beliefs are welcome. Join our Facebook group by clicking here or contact the office and speak with Pastor Phil Quinn. Pub Theology meets during the program year from September through the end of May.
Hope Church Readers
This group meets regularly on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 1:00 PM in Commons 2 for a monthly book discussion. Someone takes a turn leading the discussion while another member provides the refreshments and hospitality for the day. The reading list for the coming program year is created by member suggestions each spring. Contact Lauren Heyboer for more information.
Men’s Breakfast
Men’s breakfast meets faithfully at 6:30 a.m. every Wednesday. This group has been meeting for 60+ years. Men’s breakfast is always open to visitors and new members. They take turns making breakfast for the group in pairs. Each morning includes fellowship over breakfast and then a topical study with interactive discussion. Contact David Hawley for more information <david8hl@outlook.com>.
Women’s Circles
Women’s Circles meet either the first or second Wednesday of each month. These are ongoing groups that have a combination of long term members and newcomers. Both Circles welcome visitors and new members. Circle 1 meets at 10:00 a.m. while Circle 4 meets at 7:00 pm. Both groups meet at the church for a time of fellowship and Bible study. Contact the office for more information or to get involved.
