Maple Avenue Ministries is once again hosting a day of service to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. and it is open to the community. This year’s recipients of the day of service will be senior citizens living in Flint, MI. While there is so much more to do, there has been attention and support being offered to children, schools, and families. The seniors of Flint have not been as visible. On Monday, January 16th, community members will gather at Maple Avenue Ministries, 427 Maple Ave., from 9:00am – 12:00pm to assemble care kits to be delivered to the The Church Without Walls in Flint who will get these into the hands seniors around the community. Hope Church is being asked to supply the lotion for these kits. The goal is to collect 75-100 bottles of lotion. Please bring your donation of Nivea, Curel, or Eucerin lotion to Hope Church by Sunday, January 15. The brand of the lotion matters in order to combat skin diseases caused by the water contamination.
In the afternoon, children are invited to a civil rights activity time from 1pm-3pm. They will play games like Civil Rights Bingo and they will have the opportunity to work with author, Antionette Lawrence, who will be present for the afternoon. She will share some of her stories and then teach the children how to tell and write their own stories. This is a great hands-on opportunity for children to engage in this important day of service in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.
