“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” –African proverb
Anyone who has traveled in a group knows that making decisions can be difficult—our needs are multiplied, someone has to use the bathroom, people are hungry at different times. It’s much easier, more efficient and convenient, to travel alone. I can go faster. But if we want to take the long view, to be resilient, to “go far”, we realize we need each other’s support.
I’m excited that our neighborhood churches are taking the long view and working together for the strength of Washington School Neighborhood. On Feb 13, for example, four churches are working together to provide free childcare so parents in the churches and in the neighborhood can get some time off, go out on a date, or with friends, or just get three hours to themselves. I think this kind of working together will take us far as a community.
