Actual hands-on work is beginning! After months and months of research and planning and review, we’ve reached the point at which we can start to get our hands dirty.
Room 106 is first up, for a couple of reasons. When we defined the requirements, it became clear that the project didn’t need a full professional team (read about the long-term plan for Room 106 here). Smart use of our resources would mean that we’d do it ourselves, and Ben Sikkink volunteered his planning and oversight skills so we can get the best of both worlds–DIW and professional smarts.
We’re starting the Room 106 facelift now because that space will be used over the next year as a temporary home as other rooms need to be vacated. Doing some of the facelift now will make the space more hospitable along the way!
Ben has assembled a schedule for the work to be done, which includes removing items from the walls and room, prepping walls and beams for painting, painting, removing carpet, and then either removing carpet adhesive or laying down flooring, depending on what we find under the carpet. Work crews are planned for Saturday mornings and Monday evenings:
- Saturday, January 30 8:30 to noon
- Monday, February 1 6 to 9 p.m.
- Saturday, February 13 8:30 to noon
- Monday, February 15 6 to 9 p.m.
- Saturday, February 27 8:30 to noon
- Saturday, March 5 8:30 to noon
- Monday, March 7 6 to 9 p.m.
